Free Software

CCleaner is a freeware utility that simply cleans your system to free up space on the harddisk. My personal favourite one. It also has a registry cleaner, add/remove programs and startup optimizer. The cleaning is highly secure (Gutmann Pass). A simple and easy to use tool. With no adware, spyware or viruses.

CCleaner - Freeware Windows Optimization

Advanced SystemCare Free

It is a one click solution for all your computer problems. Their slogan “A Click A Day For Computer Repair, Protection & Optimization”. It cleans, protects, repairs the registry and computer. It can be used on daily basis. It can be labeled as freeware. The only disadvantage is you cannot schedule the tasks, have to do it manually….but its just a button click. It’s worth it. A full tune up for your system, why deny it? If you really cannot press some buttons go buy the PRO version.

Smart Defrag

It is a “wow”. I have never seen a defragger as efficient as this one freeware or shareware . So powerful and fast. It has the basic “Defrag only” option only with advanced options like “Fast optimize” and “Deep optimize”. You can schedule it to run at specific times. Another feature that struck me was the option to defrag when the system is at “idle”, also accompained with a safety option to stop defrag if the resources exceede a set percentage. Also to disable defrag on lapptop, if its running on battery. With no adware, spyware or viruses.

A must have CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray burning application. it is a freeware and supports a wide range of formats. A bit complex to use, but features are too good that a paid software cannot offer.

My Little Creations

Rechner, My First Calculator !!!

Rechner started as a simple calculator. It was my start in programming in C#. I did not know much. It was given as a mini project by our faculty. It was a small dream for me to complete it. Later I named it ‘Calculz’, but some of my friends asked me make it unique. Then my mind struck, I tried different lamguages…. French, Italian, Spanish and lots more. But I did not find them so interesting. They only language I did not try was German, and yeah the name ‘Rencher’ finally appealed to me.
This is the latest version Rencher 1.2. There were two other earlier versions, but quite buggy. This is the new and improved one with extra features.

Tick Tac Toe, My First Game !!!

Tick Tac Toe is my C# first game. It is a two player game. As everyone knows this traditional game, I don’t have to say much. So enjoy it !!!

This was my first official cookery contest. My teachers from college pulled me into this, I had no intension of taking part. Well, what to do….things to happen will happen….and this was destined to take place. I was the first person to register formally. I got this Inspiron in October 2007. I was all excited to open it up as the courier arrived. The excitement was killed as soon as I switched on the power button, setted up my account and finally booted to Windows Vista. The HDD just had a C: drive in which everything was installed and a D: drive which has the recovery. The HDD was locked by Dell, so Vista partitioner couldn’t do a thing  It also had a hidden Media Direct partition, which can be called as “Dell’s beauty without brains feature”.

I used the laptop in the condition I got just for one and a half months. After which the performance degraded, Windows Defender got corrupted and the battery notification icon just disappeared. It’s natural the performance degraded since I had no option rather than to install everything into the C: drive. But I still have no clue how Windows Defender got corrupted and the battery notification icon disappeared :O. So I disabled Windows Defender, which was of no use in the first place. But the battery icon and its options was necessary. I didn’t want to mess with the laptop since the warranty may go void. So I called up Dell Tech Support. They asked me to do useless steps which didn’t solve a thing. So they asked me to reset the laptop to factory settings and gave me the instructions to do so everything went off fine.

I asked them able the possibility to partition the C: drive, they said its not possible unless a format a reinstall is performed, and the recovery partition will also be lost in the process. The manufacture lock of HDD is something I just hate. The gave me the instruction to do so, with the Media Direct CD. There is another work around to just reinstalled your without loosing ur data on other drive. I backed up my data and followed their instructions. But in this case too, your only able create to drive C: and D:.There is also a work around to create more partitions, once you boot into Vista.

The  one year warranty was a useless thing. They didn’t even replace the batteries. Nor provided any effective solutions to my laptop problems.

One thing I learned from calling Dell Tech Support is that, don’t call them….solve your problems by yourself or google or ask your techie friends. This is the simplest, quickest and safest way to put an end to your problems. It is been 1 year and 4 months with my laptop. I’m far much better in troubleshooting, still learning than when I got the laptop……for which I’m very thankfull to Dell Tech Support for not providing effective solutions. 😀

I knew it !!!!!!!

We won the competition

Today was a great day. Myself, Sindhu, Remya Francis, Remya P.V and Niky had set for the cooking competition organized by St.Albert’s Aquaculture and Biochemistry Department. We had a tough time….yo…not enough place and all was crampy. The boat journey to the farm was very nice. We had our fun too. And we won the 1st prize. The prize was not so attractive. Just a trophy and Rs.400.

A year ends and a new year begins……

Well….well…..this titled entry should have been written on the 1st of January or at least in the month of January. But who cares? 😛 My journal, my rules…. Just felt like writing, after a few months.

I had started a mini project in December, Competence Evaluation System for this semester GNIIT. Going pretty fine….small hurdles here and there which I have passed through and have too pass through.

A new year began…all fresh…all good…a great start….Nothing much to say about January….passed off smoothly….well….well….I forgot, but how could I? Not so smoothly….remembered a second ago….my MCA first group exam were on the first two sundays. The first exam was pretty fine, but…but….the second one was not so good…. Praying to Christ for His mercy and consideration, and I believe He does everything only for my good. So please remember me in your prayers.

Now this is February…obviously the memorable month for me, since my birthday falls in February….in that to on the 14th….another special day…the Valentine’s Day…. The V-Day has never played any role for me…..I was just bothered only about my birthday. Why waste your resources on boyfriend(s) or girlfriend(s)? How good is to be ‘single’…..just enjoying the maximum of it now…..five more days for my birthday…..

Stopping for now……and I hope this year 2009 would be a wonderful year for me and all……

The world is so close…….

Yesterday I had commented on a blog entry. Just like what I usually do. It was an interesting and thought provoking entry. It was about the clumsiness of students in Kerala. Well….the funniest thing that happened was….I meet him randomly at my tuition place. I didn’t recognize him at first, but he was talking about the articles in the blog to the teacher, that clicked me he was the owner of the blog I commented in. I too joined in. Then he understood that I was the one who commented on one of this entry. I added him on Orkut.

The story continues…..we became friends, scarped in Orkut and talked when we meet at tuition’s. A few days back, my tuition had called me and said that I was related to her. I was dumbstruck. Well after which she explained the relation that had begun long back. And the guy who I met via the blog also happened to be my relative. Thanks to his blog and the internet. This is a first time experience.
